I’m Erik, a physical oceanographer. My main passions are in field observations, but I’ve worn many hats and am currently working on regional ocean modelling in Oceananigans. This postdoc is focused on using high-speed GPU-based ocean models (built on Oceananigans in the Julia programming language) to assess sources of model uncertainty in marine carbon dioxide removal estimates. I’m working with Ruth Musgrave at Dalhousie University, as well as Raphael Ouillon, the CTO of atdepth. Prior to this, my PhD Thesis and associated papers were centered around shelf break dynamics in Southeast Aotearoa New Zealand, where I did my degree under the supervision of Rob Smith, Ata Suanda, and Steve Wing at the University of Otago.
